Recanati
RecanatiRecanati is within easy reach from the cost. The town is perched on a hill looking on the Musone and Potenza river valleys. The perfect visit to Recanati should start at the eighteenth century palace home of Giacomo Leopardi. The place is now inhabited by the poet’s relatives and it is also museum. It is located in “Sabato del Villaggio” square. Several objects and manuscripts of the poet are there on show. The life of the poet can be retraced there and his father library, where he used to study, can be admired. It will help understanding the literal education Leopardi had.

A signalled path leads then to the famous “Colle dell’Infinito” where a wonderful panorama can be enjoyed. On the way towards the main square, the Torre Antica, Sant’Agostino Church and its bell tower are to be seen. In the middle of the main square there is a statue of the poet. The Town Hall encloses the square. It houses a museum dedicated to Beniamino Gigli, a famous tenor who was born in Recanati. A visit there is a must. Stage costumes, photographs and antiques that belonged to the musician are on show there.
